Okanagan Wine Tour
If you have family or friends coming to town and are looking for something to do, I highly recommend setting up a wine tour. We live in the wine capital of Canada and it’s a great way to show off the Okanagan and sample some of the best wines in the world. I had family visiting from out of town and wanted to give them the grand tour of BC’s wine country. On the day we got a bit of a late start, but it was a must that we hit three of my favorite wineries on this Okanagan wine tour.
Our first stop was the Black Hills Estate winery in Oliver. One thing to note is not all wineries charge for a tasting, but Black Hills does and it’s worth it! (Before going you’ll want to make a reservation to guarantee seating.) When we arrived the friendly staff escorted to our table and within minutes of being seated we were greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable staff member. She offered us a choice of three different tasting menus – a $10 option (three pre-selected wines), a $20 option (all their wines) or a $30 option (Note Bene special); I personally selected the $20 option. While she was serving these amazing wines she also went through a very detailed explanation on the history, production process and different flavor profiles to expect from each of the wines. It was a very relaxing experience… and we took our time enjoyed the view, the delicious wines and of course the company.
Our next stop was Burrowing Owl, also located in Oliver. This winery is truly magical with it gorgeous views of the entire valley either from the parking lot or their restaurant patio! I think it has one of the best (if not the best) views of the entire valley, in the Okanagan. It’s an absolute must to visit this winery if you’re coming to the Okanagan. If you have time to stop into the restaurant the food is amazing (I’ve been a couple times), but if you’re pushed for time and only want a snack, I recommend their meat and cheese plate… it’s absolutely fab!
Our final stop of the day was a little winery by the name of La Stella, located just north of Osoyoos. Their delicious Italian inspired wines and olive oils are some of the best I’ve ever had! Definitely try a sample of their olive oils, I promise you will not be disappointed! They do offer a free wine tasting with great lake views and some Kodak moments from the Romeo and Juliet balcony!
Sadly that was all the time we had for the wine tour, but it was such a fun day! Lots of great memories that’s for sure! There will definitely be more wine tours to in our plans this summer!
